Game days near Wrigley, brunch on Southport, a run along the lake before work. Life in Lakeview is full, and most people are juggling a career, a relationship, and a future they're still figuring out. Our Lakeview clients tend to come to us to process shifts in identity, relationships, and those big "where am I headed?" conversations.
Therapy is a quiet place to step out of all that and get honest about what you want, and what keeps getting in the way.
What People Often Bring Us
- You hit every deadline and show up for everyone, and there's still a low hum of worry you can't shake.
- You overthink every text and doubt a relationship that's going well, then wonder whether the problem is the relationship or the anxiety.
- You're talking about moving in, getting engaged, or whether to stay at all.
- You feel behind on a timeline you never actually signed up for.
Our individual therapy helps you understand where these patterns started, so you can respond to your life instead of bracing against it.
Therapy That Fits Around Your Day
All of our sessions happen online. Log on from home before work, during lunch, or after an evening by the lake. Wherever you are in Illinois, we can meet you there.
How We Work
Our therapists are relational, which really just means we're curious about the people and patterns in your life, not only what's going wrong. Even when you come on your own, we look at how your relationships, past and present, shape the way you think, feel, and react. Then we give you something practical to try that week.
We'll laugh with you when it fits, too. Therapy can matter a great deal without feeling heavy every minute.
You set the direction. Your goals, values, and lived experience guide the work, and our practice is affirming for people of every background, including LGBTQ+ and BIPOC clients.
If You're Working on It Together
Plenty of couples reach out before anything is wrong, and we love that. Couples therapy while dating helps you notice patterns early, and premarital counseling gives engaged couples room to talk through money, family, and the future before the wedding. When you're feeling stuck, couples therapy is here too.

Meet McKennaFrequently Asked Questions
Do you have an office in Lakeview?
No, and that's on purpose. We're a Chicago practice and every session happens online, so you can meet with your therapist from home or anywhere else in Illinois.
Can I work on relationship problems in therapy on my own?
Yes, and a lot of people do. When a partner isn't ready to join, working on how you show up can still shift the whole relationship. Change in one person has a way of rippling outward.
Does online therapy work as well as in-person?
For a lot of what brings people in, like anxiety, depression, and relationship stress, research shows online therapy works about as well as sitting in an office. What matters most is feeling understood by the person on the other side of the screen.
Do you take insurance?
We're in network with BCBS PPO, UnitedHealthcare PPO, and Aetna PPO. Plans vary, so it's worth a quick call to your insurer to check your mental health benefits. If you're out of network, we can give you a superbill to submit for possible reimbursement, and private pay is always an option if you'd rather keep insurance out of it.
What happens in the free consultation?
Think of it as a chance to say hello. You'll share a little about what's going on, ask whatever is on your mind, and we'll talk about whether working together feels right. No commitment and no pressure.

You don't have to know exactly what kind of therapy you need. Reach out, and we'll figure out the next step together.
